Ph.D

John T. Sorrell, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and pain psychologist with over 20 years devoted to behavioral medicine and interdisciplinary chronic pain care. He joins Pain and Rehabilitation Consultative Medical Group (PRCMG) after nearly six years in Integrated Behavioral Health at San Mateo Medical Center, where he partnered closely with medical teams to support patients navigating complex, overlapping physical and emotional conditions. Dr. Sorrell has long focused on building integrated, high-functioning pain services. He was a member of the four-person founding team that launched the Pain Management Clinic at San Mateo Medical Center more than a decade ago—an accomplishment he remains proud of for expanding access to whole-person pain care. He also served in the Department of Anesthesiology at Stanford School of Medicine’s Pain Management Center, providing specialized pain psychology assessment and evidence-based treatment. His clinical approach integrates ACT, CBT, and mindfulness, grounded in steady presence, humility, and a commitment to truly hear and see each patient.
