Gema Ortiz

M.A., PsyD

Dr. Gema Ortiz is a bilingual (English & Spanish) Clinical Neuropsychologist. Dr. Ortiz earned her B.A. in Psychology and Kinesiology from San Jose State University while also being a Division 1 athlete and playing semi-professional soccer. She then worked for the Bay Area Women’s Sport Initiative (BAWSI), where she worked with the founders and were a part of the women’s national soccer players, Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy to advocate for mobilizing the women’s sports community to engage, inspire, and empower girls in under-resourced neighborhoods and children with disabilities. She earned her Doctorate of Psychology from John F. Kennedy School of Psychology and Social Sciences at National University. Her training combines psychotherapy (individual, couple, sport teams, group, and family) and assessment. Dr. Ortiz has experience working in various settings, including community mental health centers, inpatient and outpatient hospitals, clinics, and university counseling centers. During her two-year Neuropsychology Fellowship at the Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic, Dr. Ortiz provided comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations and neurofeedback treatment for individuals across the lifespan. In addition, she served as a cognitive brain trainer at the Abbey Neurodynamic Center, integrating principles from sport psychology to help individuals optimize cognitive performance, enhance resilience, and achieve their highest potential.
